Swissotel Tallinn Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at quite a few places in Tallinn’s Old Town area, and Swissotel Tallinn honestly surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes five-star hotels can feel a bit stuffy or try-hard? This one actually gets the balance right – it’s polished without being pretentious, and the staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing rather than just going through the motions.
The thing that really struck me was how they’ve managed to capture that clean, minimalist Swiss aesthetic while still feeling warm somehow. The lobby has these gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with light (well, when Estonia’s not doing its winter thing), and there’s this subtle blend of modern furnishings with touches that nod to the local Baltic style. I mean, you’re not going to mistake it for a boutique guesthouse, but it doesn’t feel like every other international chain either. The rooms – and I’ve been in both their standard ones and a junior suite – have that Swiss attention to detail you’d expect. Everything just works properly, you know? The blackout curtains actually block light, the shower has real water pressure, and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in the Baltics.
What really sets this place apart though is how well-positioned it is for exploring Tallinn properly. You’re close enough to walk to Toompea Hill and the medieval Old Town without dealing with the tourist crush right at your doorstep, but far enough that you can actually get some peace when you want it. The breakfast setup is pretty impressive too – they do this mix of international options alongside proper Estonian specialties, and their coffee is actually decent (which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given at hotel breakfast buffets). I particularly appreciated that they seem to understand business travelers – the WiFi is fast and reliable throughout the building, there are plenty of power outlets in sensible places, and the business center doesn’t feel like an afterthought stuck in some basement corner. The fitness center is well-equipped if you’re into that sort of thing, though I’ll admit I spent more time exploring the city than working out. One small thing that caught my attention – the concierge team really knows their stuff about Tallinn beyond just the obvious tourist spots, and they’re great at suggesting restaurants or cultural events that locals actually care about rather than just the places that pay commissions.

The view from the room was excellent. The bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly. Really enjoyed the gym and spa. Had a massage that was lovely. Also requested to extend my checkout until later because of a later flight and was accommodated. The restaurant at the top of the hotel was incredible.
