You know what hits you first when you walk into Hotel Telegraaf, Autograph Collection? The smell – and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s this subtle blend of old wood and something floral that just feels expensive without being overwhelming. I’ve stayed in plenty of five-star places that try too hard with their lobby scents, but this one gets it right. The building itself has this incredible history as Tallinn’s former telegraph headquarters, which honestly makes way more sense once you see the gorgeous original details they’ve preserved throughout the property.

The location is pretty much perfect if you’re planning to actually explore Old Town – you’re literally steps away from Raekoja plats (Town Hall Square) without being right in the thick of all the tourist chaos. I mean, you’ll still hear some street noise during the summer evenings when everyone’s wandering around, but it’s more charming than annoying. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to blend the medieval atmosphere of the surrounding area with genuinely modern luxury. The rooms feel spacious by European standards, and the bathrooms – well, let’s just say they clearly didn’t skimp on the renovation budget. The staff actually knows the neighborhood too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels can’t give you decent restaurant recommendations beyond the obvious spots.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t just another historic hotel trading on its past. The service feels personal without being intrusive, and they seem to genuinely care about getting the details right. Check-in was smooth (even when I arrived stupidly early), and they sorted out dinner reservations at a place I never would have found on my own. The breakfast situation is solid too, though honestly, you’ll probably want to explore some of the cafés in the medieval streets nearby at least once. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of the city, but the hotel works with a garage that’s close enough. With a 9.1 rating, it’s clear other people have had similarly good experiences, and after staying there myself, I get why. It’s the kind of place that makes Tallinn feel both exotic and comfortable at the same time – which, if you’ve never been to Estonia, is exactly what you want from a base in this incredibly underrated city.
