The penthouse itself feels properly upscale – I mean, the bathroom alone is bigger than some hotel rooms I’ve been in – but it doesn’t have that sterile, could-be-anywhere feeling you get at big chain hotels. You know what I mean? The terrace is where you’ll spend most of your time though, and honestly, who could blame you. I found myself out there at sunrise with my coffee, then back again for sunset with a glass of wine. The way the light hits those ancient stone buildings in the evening… well, let’s just say your Instagram is going to get a serious upgrade.

Practically speaking, the location is absolutely perfect if you want to explore the old town – it’s maybe a five-minute walk down these charming (if slightly steep) cobblestone streets to get into the heart of things. You’re close enough to hear the gentle buzz of the evening crowds at the waterfront restaurants, but far enough up that you’re not dealing with any noise issues when you’re trying to sleep. Actually, the only sounds you’ll really notice are the seagulls in the morning and maybe some church bells – which, let’s be honest, just adds to the charm. The host was incredibly responsive too, and check-in was smooth as anything. There’s even decent parking nearby, which anyone who’s driven in these old coastal towns will tell you is basically worth its weight in gold. I mean, this place has earned that perfect 10 rating for a reason – it’s one of those stays where everything just works exactly how you’d hope it would.
