But this little 3-star gem tucked away on Juhan Sütiste tee in Mustamäe actually surprised me in the best way possible. The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there.

The thing about Mustamäe is that it’s this perfectly Estonian residential district – you know, those classic Soviet-era apartment blocks that have been lovingly updated over the years. Jane’s sits right in the middle of it all, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re not dealing with the tourist crowds of Old Town (though the tram will get you there in about 15 minutes), but you’re living like actual Tallinn residents do. There’s a Selver supermarket practically around the corner, which saved my life when I needed late-night snacks and decent coffee for the morning. The apartment itself feels… well, like staying at your Estonian friend’s place, if your Estonian friend has really good taste in furniture and knows how to make a small space feel cozy without being cramped.

What really won me over was the attention to detail – fresh towels that actually smelled like they’d been line-dried, a kitchen stocked with proper dishes (not those flimsy hotel cups), and windows that open wide enough to let in that crisp Baltic air. The neighborhood gets properly quiet after 9 PM, which means you’ll actually sleep well, but during the day there’s this gentle hum of normal life happening around you. Kids playing in the courtyards, neighbors chatting by the bus stops – it’s the kind of authentic experience you miss when you’re stuck in some sterile hotel chain. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that awkward lobby hovering while they “prepare your room.” Jane (or whoever’s running the show) clearly gets that travelers just want to drop their bags and start exploring. Plus, parking isn’t the nightmare it can be in other parts of Tallinn – there’s actually space for your rental car if you’re driving around Estonia.
