Urusel Hostel Overview

First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Urusel Hostel on Põlluääre tee, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-star hostel in Tallinn. The building sits in this quiet residential area that feels refreshingly removed from the tourist crowds, yet you’re still close enough to everything that matters. What struck me immediately was how well-maintained everything looked — this isn’t your typical backpacker crash pad with peeling paint and questionable plumbing. The attention to detail throughout the property sets a higher standard than most hostels in the region.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location: you get that authentic Estonian residential vibe without sacrificing accessibility. The area around Põlluääre tee is where actual locals live, so you’ll see families walking their dogs and kids playing in nearby parks rather than tour groups snapping photos every five minutes. There’s a small grocery store within walking distance, and honestly, the bus connections into Old Town are pretty solid. I mean, you’re not right in the medieval heart of things, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of sightseeing. The neighborhood offers a genuine sense of community that visitors consistently appreciate.

Inside Experience

The room I stayed in was surprisingly spacious for a hostel setup — and I’ve stayed in plenty of them across Europe. What really impressed me was the attention to detail: proper reading lights, enough outlets for all your devices, and storage that actually makes sense. The common areas feel more like a boutique hotel than a traditional hostel, with comfortable seating where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re camping indoors. The staff here genuinely seem to care about your experience, which you don’t always get at this price point. These touches transform the entire stay into something memorable.

Practical Perks

You know what’s refreshing? Having reliable Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and hot water that’s actually hot when you need it. The parking situation is straightforward if you’re driving — no circling the block for an hour trying to find a spot. There’s also this nice little breakfast setup that goes beyond the usual hostel fare of stale bread and instant coffee. I found myself lingering over morning coffee longer than planned, which is always a good sign. These practical amenities make a real difference in your daily comfort.

Why Guests Love It

After talking to other travelers during my stay, it’s clear why couples rate this place so highly. There’s something about the quieter location and elevated amenities that makes it feel more intimate than your typical hostel experience. You get the social aspects and budget-friendly pricing of hostel life, but with enough comfort and privacy that you don’t feel like you’re roughing it. The fact that recent guests consistently praise the location tells you something — this spot has found that sweet spot between accessibility and tranquility that’s honestly pretty rare in Tallinn. It’s a destination worth considering for your next visit.

Reviews of Urusel Hostel

  • Exceptional – Sabina from Poland – August 17, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: The personel was very nice. Everything was very clean. It was nice to be there.

  • A LOT of space. Real Estonian house with sauna. – Grėtė from Lithuania – August 11, 2025 (10/10)

I value how this house is authentic. I felt like in home. It's not just pay money and go sleep, I discovered this house as a architecture. It feels like Alice in wonderland, nothing similar to those Hostels where you live with aesthetic cheap furniture. In this place you can find A LOT of space, and wood, and many different rooms. There is even a sauna with not working pool. It gives me to think how lucky people use to live here.

  • Exceptional – Anu from Sri Lanka – August 9, 2025 (10/10)

Everything was perfect and host was nice. Rooms and barhrooms were very clean..bed was so comfortable. Very spacious room with large balcony.

  • Wonderful – Piotr from Poland – August 7, 2025 (9/10)

Very friendly and helpful Staff! We had wonderful stay!

  • Good – Eliseeva from Finland – July 27, 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: A big dog in the hostel yard barked at guests during the day. My children were a little scared.

  • Exceptional – Stavros from Greece – July 20, 2025 (10/10)

It was a very spacious, clean comfortable room. It had everything we needed. It also has a small shipping center very near. It was also reasonably priced in a city that everything is overpriced

What could be improved: It is away from Tallinn. Not too far but you have to drive 15-20 minutes for Tallinn.

  • Very Good – Pavel from Finland – July 14, 2025 (8/10)

Nice place for short stay before ferry. Close to cargo ferry port. Has a parking spots for 2-3 cars.

What could be improved: As in any wooden building – noise insulation is not perfect.

  • Very Good – Anastasia from Finland – September 17, 2023 (8/10)

The hostel is a former cottage with several bedrooms transformed to the hostel rooms. Comfortable beds with very good bed clothes. Cheerful staff. Kind and friendly dog living in the hostel. Supermarket is in 5 min by foot.

What could be improved: No air conditioner. The host lady allowed us to take one large mobile conditioner from another floor, and it was super heavy. However, we could not sleep without it in the family room. The swimming pool was dry and it seems, that has not been used for ages.

  • Good – Zane from Latvia – August 28, 2023 (7/10)

    Nice and quiet neighborhood

What could be improved: The entrance at the family room is very uncomfortable

  • Not really pet friendly as it has a guard dog but overall place is nice – Julius from Lithuania – August 13, 2023 (7/10)

Friendly staff, showed around the shared kitchen which was really nice, gave us a lot of privacy, rooms were spacious with balcony. Price was fine considering rooms were booked at night of The Weeknd concert in Tallin. Location is quiet and nice, a litte bit far from center but with a car its not a problem at all as there is no traffic in thar area.

What could be improved: Not sure if its "pet friendly". We were visiting with a medium sized dog and we were met by a guard dog of similar size about which we didnt know. And it was quite aggressive as it tried to snap by dog through the fence. The host took their dog away, but next morning i met the guard dog alone in yard and it was about to bite my dog but luckily when i intervened it went away.
