Urusel Hostel Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Urusel Hostel on Põlluääre tee, I wasn’t expecting much. The area feels pretty residential, sort of tucked away from the medieval tourist madness of Old Town, but you know what? That turned out to be exactly what I needed after days of cobblestone crowds and overpriced everything.
The thing about this place is it actually gets the hostel vibe right without trying too hard. The common areas have that lived-in feeling where you can tell people genuinely hang out there – not just pose for Instagram stories. I mean, there were board games that looked actually played with, and the kitchen had that subtle coffee-and-something-cooking smell that makes you feel at home. The staff seemed to know their regulars by name, which is always a good sign. My room was clean (really clean, not hostel-clean), and honestly, the beds were way more comfortable than I expected from a 3-star place. You can hear some street noise in the morning, but it’s more like gentle neighborhood sounds than city chaos.
What really sold me was the location once I figured it out. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from Raekoja plats, but the bus connections are actually solid – I could get to the old town in about 15 minutes, and there’s this little Estonian bakery just down the street that locals queue up at every morning around 8 AM. The woman behind the counter doesn’t speak much English, but she’ll point you toward the best pastries with genuine enthusiasm. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond just the tourist spots (which you absolutely should), being slightly outside the center means you’re not paying tourist prices for everything. There’s a Selver supermarket within walking distance, and I discovered this random little park nearby that’s perfect for morning coffee when the weather cooperates. The hostel itself has this relaxed energy – people actually chat in the common room instead of just staring at their phones, and the 8.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it delivers on the stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling.

Reviews of Urusel Hostel
Wonderful – Piotr from Poland – August 7, 2025 (9/10)
Very friendly and helpful Staff! We had wonderful stay!
Not really pet friendly as it has a guard dog but overall place is nice – Julius from Lithuania – August 13, 2023 (7/10)
Friendly staff, showed around the shared kitchen which was really nice, gave us a lot of privacy, rooms were spacious with balcony. Price was fine considering rooms were booked at night of The Weeknd concert in Tallin. Location is quiet and nice, a litte bit far from center but with a car its not a problem at all as there is no traffic in thar area.
What could be improved: Not sure if its "pet friendly". We were visiting with a medium sized dog and we were met by a guard dog of similar size about which we didnt know. And it was quite aggressive as it tried to snap by dog through the fence. The host took their dog away, but next morning i met the guard dog alone in yard and it was about to bite my dog but luckily when i intervened it went away.Good – Eliseeva from Finland – July 27, 2025 (7/10)
What could be improved: A big dog in the hostel yard barked at guests during the day. My children were a little scared.
Very Good – Pavel from Finland – July 14, 2025 (8/10)
Nice place for short stay before ferry. Close to cargo ferry port. Has a parking spots for 2-3 cars.
What could be improved: As in any wooden building – noise insulation is not perfect.Very Good – Anastasia from Finland – September 17, 2023 (8/10)
The hostel is a former cottage with several bedrooms transformed to the hostel rooms. Comfortable beds with very good bed clothes. Cheerful staff. Kind and friendly dog living in the hostel. Supermarket is in 5 min by foot.
What could be improved: No air conditioner. The host lady allowed us to take one large mobile conditioner from another floor, and it was super heavy. However, we could not sleep without it in the family room. The swimming pool was dry and it seems, that has not been used for ages.Good – Zane from Latvia – August 28, 2023 (7/10)
Nice and quiet neighborhood
What could be improved: The entrance at the family room is very uncomfortableExceptional – Sabina from Poland – August 17, 2025 (10/10)
What could be improved: The personel was very nice. Everything was very clean. It was nice to be there.
A LOT of space. Real Estonian house with sauna. – Grėtė from Lithuania – August 11, 2025 (10/10)
I value how this house is authentic. I felt like in home. It's not just pay money and go sleep, I discovered this house as a architecture. It feels like Alice in wonderland, nothing similar to those Hostels where you live with aesthetic cheap furniture. In this place you can find A LOT of space, and wood, and many different rooms. There is even a sauna with not working pool. It gives me to think how lucky people use to live here.
Exceptional – Anu from Sri Lanka – August 9, 2025 (10/10)
Everything was perfect and host was nice. Rooms and barhrooms were very clean..bed was so comfortable. Very spacious room with large balcony.
Exceptional – Stavros from Greece – July 20, 2025 (10/10)
It was a very spacious, clean comfortable room. It had everything we needed. It also has a small shipping center very near. It was also reasonably priced in a city that everything is overpriced
What could be improved: It is away from Tallinn. Not too far but you have to drive 15-20 minutes for Tallinn.
