The von Stackelberg Hotel Tallinn Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into The von Stackelberg Hotel Tallinn, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. But you know what? This place completely surprised me in the best way possible. It’s got this interesting blend of historic Estonian architecture with modern touches that actually works, which is pretty rare in Tallinn’s Old Town area where a lot of hotels try too hard to be either completely medieval or aggressively contemporary.
The location is what really sold me though. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Toompea Hill – and I mean an actual five minutes, not that tourism website nonsense where they claim everything is “just minutes away.” I timed it because I’m that kind of person. The morning walk up to the viewpoints became part of my daily routine, especially since the breakfast at the hotel runs until 10:30, so you can actually sleep in a bit and still catch those incredible views over the red rooftops before the tour groups arrive. Speaking of breakfast, they do this Estonian black bread that’s honestly better than what I found at most local cafés, and the staff seemed genuinely pleased when I mentioned it – turns out they source it from a bakery that’s been around since the Soviet era.
What I really appreciated was how quiet the rooms stayed, even on Friday nights when the Old Town gets pretty lively. The windows are properly thick (you can tell they’ve been renovated recently), and my room faced an inner courtyard that caught morning light without the street noise. The shower pressure was surprisingly strong too – I know that sounds mundane, but after a day of walking on those cobblestones, it matters more than you’d think. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be luxury, but everything works well and the beds are comfortable enough that I actually slept past 7 AM most days. Check-in was smooth, and they store luggage without making you feel like you’re asking for a huge favor, which I always appreciate. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s solidly good without being flashy, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re more interested in exploring the city than hanging around the hotel lobby.
Hotels near me in Tallinn offer convenient access to the historic center, where guests can easily walk to Toompea Castle, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and the famous Town Hall Square.

Reviews of The von Stackelberg Hotel Tallinn
Exceptional – Hans from Sweden (9/10)
Lovely room with jacuzzi. Comfy bed and a very tasty breakfast. Garden parking on the premise.
Really enjoyed the hotel, in character with the old town, great location. – Patrick from Australia (8/10)
Liked a lot about the hotel. It has plenty of character which is what we were looking for. Very picturesque courtyard, small, intimate restaurant which was very good with good service. Rooms, whilst not huge, were good by European standards. Onlt downside of the rooms was a shower over bath and the bath has very high which was tricky to get in and out. Location of the hotel was great, just on the fringes of the Old Town, approx 10 minute walk into the main area.
Wonderful – Kymberly from Australia (9/10)
