Tallinn City Apartments – Town Hall Square Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Tallinn City Apartments – Town Hall Square? The location is almost too good to be true. I mean, you’re literally steps away from one of Europe’s most stunning medieval squares, but somehow these apartments manage to stay surprisingly quiet given how central they are. The cobblestone streets can get a bit lively during summer evenings when the outdoor restaurants fill up, but honestly, that’s part of the charm – and the windows do a decent job keeping most of the noise out.
Walking into these places, you immediately get that “someone actually lives here” feeling rather than the sterile hotel room vibe. The apartments vary quite a bit – some have these gorgeous exposed beams that make you feel like you’re in a medieval merchant’s house, while others are more modern but still keep that cozy Estonian aesthetic. I particularly loved the kitchenettes because, let’s be real, eating out for every meal in Tallinn’s Old Town can get pricey fast, and there’s something satisfying about grabbing fresh bread from the little bakery on Viru Street and making your own breakfast while looking out at the Gothic spires.
The practical stuff is pretty solid too. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no standing in lobby lines or awkward small talk with reception staff. They send you codes and directions that actually work, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often that goes wrong with apartment rentals. Parking is the one thing I’d warn you about though – the Old Town is basically a pedestrian zone, so you’ll need to use one of the lots just outside the medieval walls and walk a few minutes. But honestly, that’s true for anywhere decent in this part of Tallinn, and the walk through the city gates never gets old. What really impressed me was how well-maintained everything felt for a 3-star place. Sure, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or turndown service, but the essentials are all there and actually work properly – good water pressure, reliable wifi, heating that responds when you adjust it. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you factor in that location. I’ve stayed at fancier places in Tallinn’s newer districts that felt completely disconnected from why you’d visit this city in the first place. Here, you can literally stumble out your door and be surrounded by 13th-century architecture, then duck into one of those tiny medieval alley cafes for coffee that’s honestly better than most places I’ve tried in Western Europe.
