Tallinn City Apartments – Old Town Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Tallinn City Apartments – Old Town, I wasn’t sure what to expect from an apartment-style setup in such a historic area. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come from places that don’t fit the usual hotel mold.
These apartments sit right in the heart of Tallinn’s medieval Old Town, which means you’re literally living within those ancient cobblestone streets instead of just visiting them. I mean, step outside and you’re surrounded by 13th-century architecture – it’s sort of surreal, actually. The thing about staying in Old Town is that you get to experience it at different times of day. During the morning hours, before the cruise ship crowds arrive, you can walk down Pikk Street or around Town Hall Square and it feels like you have this UNESCO World Heritage site mostly to yourself. The apartments themselves feel like someone actually thought about how real people want to live temporarily in a city. You get proper kitchens (which honestly saved me a fortune since Tallinn restaurant prices can add up), decent-sized living areas, and – this matters more than you’d think – windows that actually open so you can hear the church bells from St. Olaf’s or Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
What really struck me was how they’ve managed to give these spaces modern comfort without destroying the medieval character of the buildings. The stone walls are still there, but you’ve got reliable wifi and heating that works (trust me, Baltic winters are no joke). Parking can be tricky in Old Town – well, it’s basically impossible on most streets – but they’ll sort you out with options nearby, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t want to drive anywhere anyway. Everything worth seeing is within walking distance. I particularly loved being able to grab morning coffee from that little café on Vene Street, then spend the day exploring Kadriorg Palace or the Seaplane Harbour museum, and come back to an actual home base rather than just a hotel room. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but the quality is solid and the location is absolutely unbeatable. Actually, I’d argue location trumps fancy amenities when you’re talking about a place like Tallinn’s Old Town. You’re sleeping inside a fairy tale setting, basically.
The only thing I’d mention is that these old buildings can be a bit echo-y, so if you’re sensitive to sound, pack some earplugs for weekend nights when the Old Town bars are buzzing. But even that becomes part of the charm after a while – you’re hearing the actual life of the city, not some sanitized hotel version of it.
Best hotels in Tallinn range from charming boutique properties in the medieval Old Town to elegant modern hotels with stunning views of Tallinn Bay and ancient city walls.

A beautiful city with lots of history and character and a great apartment to stay in to see it. – Holman from Australia (9/10)
Location outstanding, with the front of the building leading onto the old square in Tallinn. The apartment was spacious, light and airy with a well fitted out kitchen. We both found the bed a little hard for us, but managed. Shower is small, but water pressure is good and it had everything you needed. There were plenty of instructions on how to get the keys from the key safe and the ability to leave our bags after check out in a safe secure location was very helpful. Tallinn is a beautiful city with lots to see and do. We are so pleased we allowed 5 nights there.
