Meriton Old Town Garden Hotel Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Meriton Old Town Garden Hotel? The name actually undersells it. I mean, when you hear “garden hotel” you might picture some quaint little place with a few flower beds, but this 4-star spot has these surprisingly lush courtyards tucked between the buildings that honestly feel like secret pockets of calm in the middle of Tallinn’s medieval chaos.
The thing is, staying here puts you right in the thick of Old Town – and I mean *right* in it. You’re basically stumbling distance from Raekoja plats (that’s Town Hall Square for the tourists), but here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: the hotel’s set back just enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with the constant clatter of cobblestones under tour groups at 7 AM. The rooms themselves are pretty solid for what you’d expect from a 4-star – nothing revolutionary, but they’ve got that clean, modern Estonian efficiency thing down. The beds are actually comfortable (sometimes you gamble on that in smaller European hotels), and the bathrooms are properly updated, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with buildings in a UNESCO World Heritage site.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that balance between being helpful and not hovering. Check-in was smooth, they knew the neighborhood well enough to point me toward the good Estonian restaurants instead of the obvious tourist traps, and honestly, they saved me from making the classic mistake of trying to drive into Old Town (don’t do it, just don’t). The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. The garden areas are genuinely nice for an evening drink if you need a break from the medieval stone everywhere, and during summer they’re actually busy with locals too, which is always a good sign. I’d say if you want to be properly immersed in Tallinn’s Old Town without sacrificing modern comfort or dealing with backpacker hostel chaos, this place hits that sweet spot. Just book early during White Nights season – the whole city gets packed and these central spots fill up fast.

Clean, quiet, beautiful building.
Wonderful – Fiona from United Kingdom (9/10)
Lovely little hotel. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Kettle and mini fridge in room. Decent shower in bathroom. Our room was above the street but really very quiet in the main. Great breakfast buffet with something to suit everyone.
Wonderful – Mayya from Russia (9/10)
Great location, friendly staff, the breakfast was good, and the room was clean. It was quiet too, which was a blessing (some hotels in Tallinn are located next to very loud clubs, thankfully this was not the case). I would gladly stay there again.

Small room in superbly located, good value hotel. – George from United Kingdom (8/10)
The location was excellent and interesting – right on Pikki, the main street in the Old Town. The room was small but well designed, reasonably comfortable and fully adequate for us. The staff were helpful in letting us leave luggage with them ahead of check-in and after check-out. We had a long walk along corridors and up a set of stairs at the far end from where we checked in to our room, which worried us a little beofre we started – and then found that we had walked the length of the block inside the hotel and that the main street was easily accessible, two floors down, via another exit.
Very Good – Deirdre from Ireland (8/10)
I liked the Meriton. It is a very old building in the Old Town of Tallinn. It is old fashioned but comfortable and reception staff were very pleasant and ordered a taxi for me to go to the airport. There was a good selection of food at breakfast time. It is literally a two minute walk to the Town Hall Square but was still fairly quiet.
