I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Luxury Suites – Viru Keskus by Rikas Hotels, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another business hotel from the outside. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The location is absolutely perfect if you want to be right in the thick of things – you’re literally sitting on top of Viru Keskus shopping center, which means you can grab everything from Estonian design pieces to late-night snacks without stepping outside. And I mean that literally – there’s an internal connection that’s a godsend when it’s -10°C outside in February.

The suites themselves feel more like proper apartments than hotel rooms, which is refreshing when you’re tired of cramped spaces with nowhere to spread out. Each one has a separate living area with a kitchenette that’s actually functional (not just for show), and honestly, after a long day exploring Tallinn’s cobblestone streets, being able to kick back on a real couch instead of perching on the edge of a bed makes all the difference. The bathrooms are spacious too – I could actually open the door without hitting anything, which is sadly rare in European city hotels. What really caught my attention was how quiet it stays despite being in such a central spot. You’d think being right above a shopping center and near Viru väljak would mean constant noise, but the soundproofing is solid. I barely heard the trams rumbling by, and trust me, those old Soviet-era ones aren’t exactly whisper-quiet.

The staff here genuinely seem to know Tallinn well – not just the tourist highlights everyone mentions, but actual local spots. When I asked about finding authentic Estonian food beyond the usual Old Town tourist traps, they pointed me toward Rataskaevu 16 (which was incredible, by the way) and a few other places I never would have found on my own. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM since they seem to run a tight ship with room turnover. Parking can be tricky in this part of town, but the hotel has arrangements with nearby garages – just ask when you book because street parking around Viru väljak is basically a lost cause. The whole area gets pretty lively during summer evenings and weekends, but in a good way – you’re within walking distance of everything from Kadriorg Park to the medieval charm of Toompea Hill, and the ferry terminal is close enough that day trips to Helsinki become totally doable. For a 4-star place with an 8.1 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for without any unpleasant surprises.

  The apartment is in a convenient location, has everything you need, but a lot of furniture, it feels like you are spending the night in an Ikea store).
  
  What could be improved: Not a very convenient check-in, we had to wait for a half an hour at the door. We could not get through to the apartment manager and stood there until passers-by opened the door downstairs. It is also a pity that the key does not open the parking lot entrance on the fourth floor, we parked in the Viru parking and had to go around with our luggage.

  Great location. As central as it can be. Easy access. Easy check in and out. Nice huge balcony. Well laid out apartment and lots and lots and lots of storage, plenty of spare bedding and towels and comfortable sleep
  
  What could be improved: Potentially could be an absolutely fantastic apartment but it has seen better days and is a bit “fried” from the edges. Some TLC would not go a miss . Property lacks attention to the detail and could do with a bit more care. There are bits of coffee machine in the cupboard, coffee filters but no actual coffee machine … couple of dining chairs are wobbly, was scared to sit on it properly incase it breaks. Cabinet light in the bathroom not working ceiling light in kitchen not working , for 2 people stay the large balcony only has one chair and no table … and there was only 1 wine glass, for 4 night stay there were no spare bin bags… , air con broken, cannot regulate nor switch off as the dial to switch off broken. Maybe there was a way but no instructions how to use it available.. Dishwasher tablets supplied but dishwasher not switching on ( not sure if broken or disconnected). No dish rack to wash by hand… Unfortunately, the list seems endless… and most of these are small things that could be easily fixed for a small cost. We messaged property that could not wash dishes prior to the departure and no reply from the host.

  Check in simple and clear. Wifi was good. There were left even cereals for breakfast, it was great.
  
  What could be improved: The bed was too soft, it was not comfortable. We haven’t foud out if it was recuperation who ford very loud and we woke up with headaches. And finally about 9 o’clock there was fire alarm in the building. It seemed it is usual thing for the locals as no one was running from their homes. Sorry, that was terrible experience.

  We arrived in a rush to get to our dinner reservation, only to find out the room hadn’t been cleaned. There was trash and dirty sheets waiting for us.
  
  Called the contact of the property and was given another room in another location with free breakfast. Great compensation for an otherwise annoying situation so we were happy.
