Here’s the thing about staying right in Tallinn’s Old Town – you’re literally living inside a UNESCO World Heritage site, which sounds fancy until you realize it means navigating cobblestones with your luggage at 11 PM. But honestly? It’s worth the minor hassle because you can stumble out your door and be at Raekoja plats in about three minutes, or wander over to those incredible city wall towers without dealing with any of the tourist bus crowds. I spent most evenings just walking around after dinner, when the day-trippers had headed back to their cruise ships and the whole area felt like you’d traveled back in time. The only real downside is that weekend nights can get a bit lively – not obnoxiously loud, but you’ll definitely hear people heading home from the bars around midnight. Actually made me feel more like a local, if I’m being honest.

The staff really knows their stuff too, which matters when you’re trying to navigate a medieval city that wasn’t exactly designed with modern tourism in mind. They’ll tell you which restaurants are worth your time (skip the touristy places right on the main square) and how to find the hidden viewpoints that most visitors never see. One guy even drew me a little map showing the quieter route to get to the upper town without fighting through all the tour groups.
