LJ5 – Old Town Rooms with Exclusive shared Roof Terrace Overview
You know what caught me off guard about LJ5 – Old Town Rooms with Exclusive shared Roof Terrace? It’s one of those places where the name actually undersells what you’re getting. I mean, sure, it sounds a bit clinical at first, but honestly – once you’re up on that roof terrace with a glass of wine watching the sun set over the old town’s terracotta rooftops, you’ll get why they made “exclusive” part of the name.
The rooms themselves are what I’d call authentically simple – and I mean that in the best way possible. This isn’t trying to be some fancy boutique hotel with marble everything, but rather feels like staying in a really well-maintained local apartment. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how rare that is in some old town properties), and there’s this nice attention to detail in how they’ve preserved original elements while making sure you’ve got proper modern amenities. The Wi-Fi works, the shower has decent pressure, and – this matters more than people think – the windows have proper shutters that actually keep the morning light out when you want to sleep in.
But honestly, it’s that roof terrace that makes this place special. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels that claim to have great views, and half the time you’re craning your neck out a tiny window to see anything interesting. Here, you’ve got this whole shared space that feels like your private hideaway, especially if you time it right. Early morning with coffee? Perfect. Evening aperitivo hour? Even better. The fact that it’s exclusive to guests means you’re not fighting crowds, and since it’s only a handful of rooms, it never feels overcrowded. I actually ended up having some great conversations with other travelers up there – something about that setting just makes people more relaxed and chatty.
The location puts you right in the heart of things without being on one of those main tourist drags where you can’t sleep because of street noise. You’re close enough to wander to dinner without planning ahead, but tucked away enough that you feel like you’ve discovered something. Check-in was straightforward – no fuss, just someone who clearly knew the property well and gave me the kind of local tips you actually want (like which bakery opens earliest and where to find parking if you’re driving).
Look, this isn’t luxury travel, and it’s not trying to be. It’s a solid 3-star that punches above its weight because someone clearly thought about what travelers actually need. The 8.5 rating makes complete sense once you’re there – it’s the kind of place where everything works, nothing disappoints, and you leave feeling like you got more than you paid for. If you’re the type who values location, genuine character, and that roof terrace advantage over having a concierge and room service, this is exactly what you want for exploring the old town.
To book a hotel in Tallinn during major Baltic festivals, travelers need early planning as this digital capital draws visitors eager to experience its UNESCO World Heritage old town and cutting-edge technology scene.

Unforgettable night in old town. – Hsiang from Italy (9/10)
Great interior design. Superb location.
Spotless, 5 star, magically beautiful… want to move in 😂 – Tamas from Spain (9/10)
Honestly by far the most amazing accommodation i ever been in any country. I would totally move in, i really liked the place, its fantastic.
Absolutely central location, in a middle of old town area. Nonstop supermarket just 3 mins walk, many main sights of the city is in 5-10 mins walking distance. As well all other kind of shops and many restaurants. Main bus and train station is about 7-8 mins away. Also the oldest coffeeshop in Tallin is 5-6 minutes away.
Comfy bed, nice shower with the floor heating, hair drier, fridge, coffee machine. Absolute cleanliness…spot on, 5 star. Its a nicely renovated old building, have a communal well equipped kitchen and amazing roof terrace with a nice view of the city.
I could totally move in and live there, absolute 5 star, i loved it! When i come back, for sure i will stay here again!!Excellent stay to remember – Mariia from Germany (9/10)
The apartment is situated on an old cobbled street leading to the top of the Toompea hill, you feel yourself part of the history. The location is just perfect for walking through the city, close to all down town sights. The building and the apartment itself are very cozy and clean, but the most amazing is the roof terrace with the view over the roofs and a small cozy kitchen upstairs. There was everything needed and even more in the room. I was pleasntly surprised by the amount of sockets in the room.
Exceptional – Vanessa from Italy (9/10)
The location is very close to the city center!
Fabulous Old Town single room. – Tim from United Kingdom (9/10)
The room was small but perfectly formed and clean. The old building has been cleverly modernised without losing the old charm. The mat with the simple map of old town was surprisingly useful. Fantastic roof terrace with views of old town in all directions.
