I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Cozy 2BR Apartment in Kalamaja + rooftop terrace, I wasn’t expecting much from the name alone. But wow, this place completely changed my perspective on Tallinn’s coolest neighborhood. You know what struck me first? The light. These old Kalamaja buildings have these massive windows that just flood the space with this gorgeous Baltic glow, especially in the morning when the sun hits just right.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home – and I mean that in the best way possible. None of that sterile hotel vibe you get sometimes. The two bedrooms are genuinely comfortable (I’m talking proper mattresses, not those rock-hard things some places try to pass off), and there’s this lived-in charm that makes you want to stay in your pajamas way longer than you should. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to cook – I picked up some fresh bread from the little bakery down the street and made breakfast while watching the neighborhood wake up through those big windows.

But honestly? The rooftop terrace is where this place becomes something special. I spent probably half my evenings up there with a glass of wine, watching the sun set over the red roofs toward Old Town. You can see the medieval spires in the distance, but you’re firmly planted in this hip, artsy part of the city that most tourists never really discover. Kalamaja has this incredible energy – it’s where young Estonians actually live and hang out, not just the tourist bubble. There’s street art everywhere, these fantastic little cafes tucked into converted warehouses, and honestly some of the best restaurants in the city are within walking distance.

The whole area comes alive differently depending on when you visit. Summer evenings are magical (those white nights are no joke – it stays light until like 11 PM), but I actually loved it in shoulder season too when there’s this cozy, locals-only feeling to everything. You’re maybe a 15-minute walk to Old Town if you want the full medieval experience, but you can also just wander Kalamaja’s wooden house streets and feel like you’ve discovered some secret corner of the Baltics.

One thing to know – this isn’t a fancy hotel with a concierge, obviously. But the check-in was smooth, and the place stays remarkably quiet considering you’re in the middle of this vibrant neighborhood. I mean, you’ll hear some street life, but it’s more charming than disruptive. The tram stops right nearby too, so getting around Tallinn is actually easier from here than from some of the more “central” hotels that charge twice as much. That 9.8 rating makes total sense once you spend a night or two here – it’s one of those places that just gets everything right without trying too hard.

  The apartment is very nice and the host is very helpful as well. Good location, nice terrace (which is actually on the different floor than the apartment).
  
  What could be improved: The only minus is the shower area, no curtain or glass – the water spills everywhere, near the toilet and under the washing machine. Apart from this, really enjoyed staying in this place.
