First Impressions
Walking into Bern Boutique by Rikas Hotels, you immediately get that cozy, intimate vibe that makes boutique hotels special. It’s tucked right into Tallinn‘s Old Town area on Aia street, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — I mean, you’re literally steps away from everything worth seeing. The lobby has this warm, Nordic-inspired design that feels authentically Estonian without being touristy about it. You know what struck me most? How the staff actually seemed to know guests by name, which is pretty rare for a three-star property.
The Heart of Old Town
Here’s the thing about staying right in Tallinn’s city center — you can walk to Town Hall Square in about three minutes, maybe five if you stop to admire the medieval architecture along the way. The cobblestone streets are right outside your door, but surprisingly, the room stays quiet at night thanks to good soundproofing. I’ve stayed in other hotels in this area where you hear every tourist group passing by, but this place actually lets you sleep. Plus, there’s something magical about stepping out in the early morning when the Old Town is still waking up and you have those ancient streets almost to yourself.
Comfortable Accommodations
The rooms aren’t huge — this is a boutique property after all — but they’re thoughtfully designed with clean lines and plenty of natural light. Each one has this nice blend of modern amenities and subtle nods to Estonian design traditions. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are well-appointed without being flashy. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and blackout curtains that actually work. The housekeeping is spot-on too, which makes a bigger difference than you’d think.
Morning Fuel
The buffet breakfast is honestly better than I expected for a three-star hotel. They’ve got the usual suspects — fresh bread, local cheeses, cold cuts — but also some Estonian specialties that give you a real taste of the region. The coffee is proper strong, which any traveler will appreciate, and they keep everything well-stocked even during busy periods. The breakfast area has these large windows that let in tons of morning light, making it a pleasant way to start your day before heading out to explore. I actually found myself lingering over breakfast longer than usual, which says something.
Why Guests Love It
Look, couples especially seem to fall for this place — and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being right in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage site, yet having a peaceful retreat to return to. The combination of that unbeatable location (seriously, the location score speaks for itself) and the personal touch you get at a smaller property creates this perfect balance. You’re not just another guest in a massive hotel; you’re staying somewhere that feels like a well-kept local secret. For the price point and the experience you get, it’s honestly hard to beat in Tallinn.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Tallinn at least two months ahead for major events like music festivals, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near historic attractions.

Wonderful Right near center, but quiet. Nice room. Great value overall.
Wonderful It was an amazing place to stay location wise, it was quiet and clean. Had all the amenities needed for a short trip. Had enough space and had an okay view from the window. The room was equipped with a kettle and a small refrigerator ideal for keeping food fresh and brewing coffee.
What could be improved: The bed that was deemed to be queen sized was really two single beds together, making it uncomfortable to sleep. Also the window to the room was without the possibility to open so no fresh air. And the AC I'm the room seemed anciat since it made weird noises whilst working
Nice location Nice place with a great location for those who want to explore the old town
Good location in old town , lots of bars and restaurants nearby, nice breakfast Staff, location, breakfast, cleanliness. View from the window!
Very Good The central location, spacious room
What could be improved: The breakfast could have been better with more options. Maybe a coffee maker in the rooms.
It is perfectly located, a very nice room and a good hotel. Great location, A/C and comfy bed
What could be improved: Staff could have been friendlier
Great stay ! Very enjoyable stay here during my first time in Estonia, located more less by the Old Town in the city centre near enough but very convenient to shops / restaurants / tourist attractions and trams etc......the staff was very helpful with any questions you may have and do their best to help !
What could be improved: Nothing really I disliked, only thing was I almost couldn't find the hotel as it's kind of hidden away where you have to walk into like a drive way / small car park, other than that there's nothing else I dislike !
Very Good Excellent location, easy to get to from Tallinn bus station and super close to the old town
Perfect location for exploring the Old town, staff very helpful Friendly staff, clean room and good facilities in the room. Perfect location in Tallin for access to the old town
What could be improved: Nothing to note
Comfortable and accommodating Location is great for proximity to old town. The bed is very comfortable and the black out curtains are nice. It was quiet. Had good air conditioning
What could be improved: The street itself is a bit sketchy with a few vagrants drunks and stoners but we didn’t feel threatened The hotel is cheaply done with wood looking contact paper veneer on doors.
