The whole vibe feels like staying at your Estonian friend’s really well-put-together place, if that makes sense. The woman at the front desk actually gave me solid recommendations for dinner that weren’t just the tourist traps everyone suggests.

What really sold me was the attention to small stuff that most places completely miss. The shower pressure is excellent (trust me, this matters more than you think), the Wi-Fi actually works consistently throughout the building, and – this might sound weird – but the lighting in the rooms is perfect for reading. Not too harsh, not too dim. Someone clearly thought about how people actually use hotel rooms. The breakfast spread isn’t massive, but what they do have is fresh and local, which I honestly prefer over those overwhelming buffets where half the food sits under heat lamps all morning. Plus, the coffee doesn’t taste like it was filtered through a gym sock, always a win in my book. The location works really well too – you’re close enough to everything that matters without being right in the middle of the chaos. I could walk to most places I wanted to go, but when I got back at night, it was actually quiet enough to sleep properly. Parking wasn’t a nightmare either, which anyone who’s driven around old European city centers will appreciate. Look, Viru Maja isn’t going to blow your mind with marble lobbies or rooftop infinity pools, but if you want a place that just gets the fundamentals right and makes you feel welcome while doing it, this is your spot. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that focus on being genuinely good rather than impressively flashy.
