The rooms have this perfect balance where you know you’re in a 4-star place (the linens are crisp, everything works like it should), but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overly polished. You know what I love? The windows. Some of them give you these glimpse views of the castle grounds that most people never see, especially if you snag one of the upper floors.

Here’s what nobody tells you about staying in this part of Tallinn – yeah, you’ll hear church bells, and sometimes there’s the clip-clop of horse carriages on the cobblestones below, but it’s actually pretty quiet at night. The tour groups clear out after dinner, and you get this almost magical sense of having the medieval city to yourself. The walk down to Town Hall Square takes maybe five minutes (downhill, thank goodness), but coming back up… well, let’s just say those Estonian dinners are working themselves off. Parking is tricky in this area – I’d honestly recommend just using taxis or walking everywhere once you’re here. The staff seems to really know their stuff about getting around the city, too. They pointed me toward this little café on Rahukohtu street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and it became my morning ritual. I guess when you’re running a place in such a specific location, you learn all the insider details that make a difference.
