Tallinn Old Town Nest Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Tallinn Old Town Nest on Toom-Kooli street, you immediately understand why this four-star boutique hotel gets such rave reviews. I mean, you’re literally steps away from Toompea Castle and the medieval heart of Tallinn — it doesn’t get much more authentic than this. The building itself has that perfectly preserved Estonian charm, tucked into one of those narrow cobblestone streets that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Location Magic

Honestly, the location here is almost unfair to other hotels. You can roll out of bed and be at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in about two minutes, or wander down to Town Hall Square before the tour groups arrive. What I love is that you’re in the thick of Old Town but on a quieter street — you get all the medieval atmosphere without the constant foot traffic. The fact that couples rate this spot 9.8 makes total sense when you’re watching the sunset from Toompea Hill, knowing your cozy room is just around the corner.

The Accommodation Experience

The rooms strike that perfect balance between historic charm and modern comfort. You know what impressed me most? The attention to detail — they’ve managed to preserve the character of this old building while making sure everything actually works properly. The windows frame views of either the medieval streets or glimpses of the Baltic beyond, and there’s something really satisfying about falling asleep to the sound of footsteps on ancient cobblestones. Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to soak up the local atmosphere.

Exploring from Your Doorstep

What’s brilliant about staying here is how effortlessly you can explore Tallinn’s layers of history. The medieval walls are practically outside your door, but you’re also perfectly positioned to duck into those hidden courtyards and artisan shops that most tourists miss entirely. I found myself popping back to the hotel between wanderings — maybe to grab a jacket or just take a breather — because it’s so centrally located. The nearby restaurant scene is fantastic too, from traditional Estonian spots to modern Nordic cuisine, all within easy walking distance.

Why Guests Love It

That 8.9 rating really tells the story here — this isn’t just about having a bed in a great location (though that location score of 9.9 speaks for itself). It’s about the whole experience of staying somewhere that feels authentically connected to Tallinn’s character. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and can point you toward experiences you’d never find on your own. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or just want to properly explore one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities, Tallinn Old Town Nest puts you right where you need to be, without any of the tourist trap nonsense that plagues other historic city centers.

Best hotels in Tallinn range from charming boutique properties in the medieval Old Town to elegant modern hotels with stunning views of Tallinn Bay and ancient city walls.

Reviews of Tallinn Old Town Nest

  • Wonderful – Zsolt from Hungary – July 31, 2025 (9/10)

Csendes, de az óvárosban, 100 méterre az Alekszandr Nyevszkij székesegyház, 200-300 méterre a Hosszú Herman toronytól, 3-5 percre a városháza, Szent Miklós templom (egyházi múzeum, fantasztikus körpanoráma a toronyból).

  • Wonderful – Karl from Netherlands – July 20, 2025 (9/10)

Great location, well equipped and clean.

What could be improved: Very hot, fans helped a bit.

  • Great location, but some problems with reliable internet and air circulation. – Angela from Switzerland – June 28, 2025 (7/10)

Once we got the instructions for the lock box the rest was easy and straight forward.
The position and lay out of the funky apartment was good.

What could be improved: Maybe it is a Tallinn thing? But we had to send a 100euro deposit to a bank account before they would send us the instructions for the lock box. This caused some apprehension. The money was then transferred but they still would not hand over instructions until the transfer was cleared. All a little unsettling at the last minute.
The internet during our stay was extremely slow. This affected receiving information as well as streaming on the TV. The apartment is built into the side of heavy stone walls, which is a great feature in the apartment, but this may have been the reason the internet just did not work well. Lastly, there was a heat source in the apartment coming from pipes we could not control. The temp inside the room remained at 28degrees, making it very uncomfortable for sleeping. They provided 2 strong fans, but really something needs to be done about the heat source. It might not be a problem in Winter, but in June it was very hot!

  • Great location, comfortable flat – Ekaterina from United Kingdom – March 11, 2025 (10/10)

The location was perfect, just a 5 min walk to the old town. The flat was very clean and really comfortable. Check-in was easy—just a lock box with the keys. We'd stay here again!

  • Overall, we enjoyed our stay in the apartment, appreciating its clean and modern design, great location, and all the ame – Carolina from United Kingdom – March 6, 2025 (8/10)

The location was very good close to old town.
Clean apartment and nice interior, you have everything for a nice stay.

What could be improved: During our stay, we encountered a few issues that could be addressed for a more comfortable experience:

    1. Shower Tap: The tap in the shower was very difficult to switch between cold and hot water, made a loud noise, and wouldn’t stop running. It may be helpful to have a plumber check it for any repairs or maintenance.

    2. Sink Tap: In the sink, I could only get boiling hot water and couldn’t access cold water. This issue should also be examined to ensure proper functionality.

    3. Heating Pipes: The heating pipes were quite noisy at night, which may not be ideal for those who are light sleepers. Consider soundproofing options or maintenance to reduce the noise.

    4. Insects: I really liked the stone wall for its aesthetic vibe; however, I noticed small insects coming out in the bathroom from the stone. It might be a good idea to seal the stone walls to prevent insects from entering.

    5. Temperature: The temperature during our stay was quite cold, with outside temperatures reaching -10°C. The indoor heating could be improved, as it was not warm enough inside.

Addressing these issues could significantly enhance the comfort and overall experience for future guests.

  • Lovely apartment, splendid location, close to everything. – Felicity from United Kingdom – February 23, 2025 (9/10)

Fantastically well equipped flat with great kitchen. Large living space. Everything you could have asked for.

What could be improved: There was no bedhead, so the pillows fell into a void behind the bed and you couldn't sit up and read in bed. It was a very unnecessary design feature.

  • Great location, warm, spacious and newly renovated apartment. Would recommend. – Mlrdem from Netherlands – December 29, 2024 (9/10)

The bed area was much more spacious that it appears in the pictures. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and it was great they provided a decent amount of dishwashing soap. We also asked for more towels and they were efficiently delivered.

What could be improved: Either we didn't know how to work the heating or it's not possible to change. On our first night we were too cold and then the remaining nights too hot. It would be good to have a manual on how to use the heating. Especially when staying during the winter months like we did. Wifi is also not great but worked the majority of the time.

  • Beautiful studio in a killer location! – Michael:h from United Kingdom – December 14, 2024 (10/10)

Killer location just steps away from many beautiful buildings, and a 5 or 10 minute walk into the old town. Very clean throughout, beautifully decorated, good range of kitchen utensils, nice touch that shower gel and washing up liquid were provided. Totally silent as well – no traffic noise, no noise from neighbours. Also appreciated that the security deposit was returned into my bank account the same afternoon we left.

What could be improved: I personally found the room temperature a bit warm and needed to use one of the two large electric fans that had been provided on a couple of occasions to cool down – I'd have liked the heating control to be adjustable. But the fans were brilliant. My partner found the temperature comfortable though so maybe that was just me.

  • Wonderful – Merana from Sweden – September 16, 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: The WiFi signal was poor as well as the GSM signal

  • First class property and location – David from United Kingdom – August 25, 2024 (10/10)

Fabulous property with everything you need in the best location 30m from the main cathedral and right near the main centre of the old town. Very comfortable and cosy, beautifully decorated and maintained and very homely.

What could be improved: Just needed a T-towel
