Old Town – Vana Viru Apartment

I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Old Town – Vana Viru Apartment, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star place in Tallinn’s historic center. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this little gem absolutely did that with its impressive 8.9 rating that actually makes sense once you’ve stayed there.

The thing about staying in Tallinn’s Old Town is that you’re literally living inside a medieval fairy tale, and this apartment lets you do it without the tourist trap pricing of some of the fancier hotels. I mean, you’re walking on cobblestones that have been there for centuries – the sound of your footsteps echoing off those ancient walls never gets old, especially early in the morning when the tour groups haven’t arrived yet. The apartment itself has this cozy, lived-in feel that’s way more comfortable than those sterile hotel rooms you usually get. It’s the kind of place where you can actually spread out your stuff, make some coffee in the morning (the little kitchen setup is surprisingly well-equipped), and feel like you’re living in the city rather than just passing through.

What really won me over, though, was how quiet it gets at night. Old Town can be pretty lively during the day – lots of tour groups and street musicians – but once evening settles in, there’s this peaceful hush that falls over everything. The thick medieval walls do wonders for blocking out any noise, so you actually get a good night’s sleep. And honestly, the location is just perfect for exploring everything on foot. You can wander over to Toompea Hill in about ten minutes, grab dinner at one of those tiny restaurants tucked into basement vaults, or just get lost in the winding streets (which I definitely recommend doing at least once). The apartment might not have all the bells and whistles of a luxury hotel, but it’s got something better – that authentic feeling of actually experiencing the city. Plus, having a proper apartment setup means you can pick up some local cheese and bread from the market and have a little picnic breakfast, which is way more memorable than another hotel buffet.
