Old Town Niguliste Residence
Old Town Niguliste Residence
You know what?
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Old Town Niguliste Residence when I first walked up – it’s tucked away in one of those narrow cobblestone streets that honestly makes you wonder if your taxi driver got lost. But that’s actually part of the charm once you realize you’re literally steps from St. Nicholas’ Church (that’s the Niguliste part, by the way). The building itself has that weathered medieval look that screams “I’ve been here since before your great-great-grandmother was born,” which in Tallinn’s Old Town basically means it fits right in with everything else.
The rooms are what I’d call “cozy” – and I mean that in the best way, not the real estate agent way where cozy means you can touch both walls at once. Mine had these thick stone walls that kept things surprisingly quiet, considering you’re smack in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage site that gets pretty tourist-heavy during the day. The furnishing is sort of a mix between modern comfort and that old-world vibe – nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which honestly is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed. The shower had decent pressure too, which might sound trivial until you’ve spent a day walking on those uneven cobblestones and desperately need a hot shower.
What really sold me on this place is the location – I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and be at Town Hall Square in about three minutes. But here’s the thing locals know: once the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships around 5 PM, the whole area transforms into something much more authentic. You’ll hear the church bells from Niguliste (it’s actually a museum now, but still gorgeous), and there’s this little bakery just around the corner that opens ridiculously early – perfect if you’re dealing with jet lag. The staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood too, not just the tourist spots. When I asked about finding a proper Estonian breakfast, they pointed me toward this tiny place on Rataskaevu Street that I never would have found otherwise. Parking is basically non-existent if you’re driving, but honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re here anyway. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but it delivers exactly what you want: a comfortable base in an incredible location without the tourist trap pricing of some of the bigger places. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re actually staying in medieval Tallinn rather than just visiting it, this place gets it right.

What Our Guests Say
Very good stay near the city center.
The location was superb and the host was helpful. It was quiet even though in a busy area. Very good value for money and lots to see and do nearby.
What could be improved: The bedsheets were clean but looked very old.
Big airy and pretty
What could be improved: Black out blinds needed as light from 0400
The location was perfect and close to everything we wanted to see while in Tallinn. The apartment itself was clean, bright, unique, with lots of amenities and exactly as described in the listing.
What could be improved: The stairs were a bit difficult to navigate, next time we’d definitely request to stay on the first or second floor. Additionally, the owners forgot to give us the Wi-Fi password, but since we only stayed for a night, it wasn't a big inconvenience.
Comfortable place with warm vibes. Good location.
What could be improved: Property owner did not reply to messages concerning (missing) apartment number and earlier check-in time within reasonable time (24h).
easy access, good location, all as described.
Location and roominess of apt.
well placed with all you need
Both the location and the apartment itself were pretty good! I would stay again for sure!
What could be improved: Not enough towels, bed sheets and blankets for three people and the host didn't reply on whatsapp.
My apparemment was cosy, with large windows and full of light, quite silent but for the shrieking gulls, which I love. The location was ideal–in the heart of the Old town, in front of a quiet church. I was extremely glad to be able to discover the wonderful Tallinn from such a pleasant and convenient abode.
