The location is what sold me initially – you’re literally a two-minute walk from Viru Street, which means you can duck into the Old Town whenever you want but still escape the tourist crowds when things get overwhelming (and trust me, they do, especially during summer). I actually found myself using the apartment as a base camp of sorts, grabbing coffee from that little café on the corner – you’ll know it when you see it, always has locals reading newspapers outside – then wandering into the medieval streets when I felt like being a tourist again. The building itself is on one of those quiet residential streets where you’ll hear actual Estonian being spoken instead of just English and German, which somehow made the whole experience feel more authentic.

What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to make a relatively compact space feel genuinely spacious. The ceilings are high enough that you’re not feeling cramped, and there’s this smart use of natural light that makes everything feel airy. The kitchen actually works – I mean really works, not just the usual hotel kitchenette with a broken coffee maker and two mismatched plates. I ended up cooking a few meals because the Balti Jaam market is just a pleasant walk away, and honestly, after a few days of restaurant hopping, making breakfast at home felt perfect. The bed situation is comfortable enough that I wasn’t thinking about it, which is always a good sign, and the wifi held up even when I was trying to upload photos and video call family back home simultaneously.
