Kalamaja apartement Overview

You know what? Kalamaja apartement caught me completely off guard – in the best possible way. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in this part of Tallinn, but sometimes those preconceptions just make the pleasant surprises even better. The moment I stepped into this cozy apartment, I could tell it had that lived-in warmth that’s so hard to fake in typical hotel rooms.

The Kalamaja district itself is actually one of those neighborhoods that’s still figuring out what it wants to be – you’ve got these beautifully restored wooden houses sitting next to edgy street art, and honestly, it feels like you’re staying in the real Tallinn rather than some sanitized tourist bubble. The apartment fits right into this vibe. It’s not trying to be fancy (the 7.0 rating tells that story), but there’s something genuinely comfortable about the space that makes you want to kick off your shoes and actually relax. I mean, the kitchen isn’t going to win any design awards, but it’s got everything you need if you want to grab some local ingredients from the nearby market and cook something simple. The bathroom’s compact but functional, and – this might sound weird – but the water pressure was surprisingly decent, which anyone who’s traveled through Eastern Europe will appreciate.

What really sold me on this place was how it made me slow down and notice the neighborhood rhythms. In the morning, you can hear the trams rumbling by (not loud enough to wake you up, just… present), and there’s this bakery smell that drifts up from somewhere nearby around 7 AM. The evenings get pretty quiet, which was perfect after long days wandering around Old Town. I actually found myself staying in more than I usually do when traveling, just because the space felt welcoming rather than like somewhere you’re just crashing between sightseeing sessions. The Wi-Fi worked fine for checking maps and staying in touch, though don’t expect lightning speeds if you’re trying to upload tons of photos.

Look, this isn’t luxury accommodation – the furnishings are a bit mismatched and there are those little quirks that come with older buildings (the front door takes a specific technique to lock properly). But sometimes that’s exactly what you want. It’s got character without being uncomfortably rustic, and the price point makes it possible to extend your stay without breaking the bank. If you’re someone who appreciates authentic neighborhood experiences over generic hotel amenities, and you don’t mind trading marble lobbies for genuine local atmosphere, this little apartment delivers something you can’t really put a star rating on.

Reviews of Kalamaja apartement

  • Ieva from Latvia – 11 September 2024 (7/10)

    Location. Self check-in box. Kitchen.

What could be improved: Microwave would be nice. Couch squeak and has arch form – you will sleep in the middle of it.

  • Pavels from Latvia – 5 August 2024 (4/10)

What could be improved: 1.

  • Krista from Finland – 30 July 2024 (7/10)

    Sijainti tosi kiva, idyllinen

  • Maria from Netherlands – 28 July 2024 (5/10)

What could be improved: Mijn eerst geboekte accomodatie werd op het laatste moment gecanceld.

  • Thomas from Germany – 27 July 2024 (7/10)

  • Sofia from Finland – 9 July 2024 (7/10)

  • Arto from Finland – 4 July 2024 (7/10)

  • Kalvi from Estonia – 26 June 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: Koridori ei olnud valgust ja ei näinud ukst lahti keerata

  • Mironova from Estonia – 9 June 2024 (7/10)
