When I first climbed up to this rooftop gem on Kungla street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard residential building. But man, was I wrong.

The moment you step inside, you realize you’re in something special. The space feels like someone’s incredibly stylish friend designed it – you know, the kind of person who somehow makes industrial fixtures and cozy touches work together perfectly. The rooftop location means you’re getting these amazing views over Kalamaja (which, by the way, has become one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city – all these colorful wooden houses mixed with hip cafes and galleries). What really got me was how quiet it actually is up there, even though you’re right in the heart of everything. I mean, you can walk to Balti Jaam in like ten minutes, but at night it’s surprisingly peaceful.

The practical stuff matters too, and this place nails it. The kitchenette is actually functional – not one of those sad hotel setups where you can barely make coffee. I ended up cooking a few meals because the nearby Balti Jaama Turg market has incredible local produce, and honestly, it felt great to have a proper space to spread out. The shower has solid water pressure (trust me, this isn’t always a given in converted spaces), and the bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. Check-in was smooth – none of that awkward hunting around for keys or confusing instructions that you sometimes get with these more unique properties.

Here’s what I think makes this place work so well: it sits right in that sweet spot between being authentically local and actually comfortable for travelers. You’re staying in real Tallinn – not some tourist bubble – but you’re not sacrificing comfort for character. The whole Kalamaja area has this creative energy that’s hard to find elsewhere in the Baltics, and being up on that rooftop sort of lets you soak it all in without being overwhelmed by it. Plus, if you’re the type who likes to wander (and you should be, in this neighborhood), you’ve got Noblessner Harbor just a short walk away, and the ferry terminals are super accessible if you want to hop over to Helsinki for a day trip. It’s one of those places where everything just clicks, you know?

  A very clean and nice apartment in a great location in Kalamaja. There is an excellent breakfast place a short walk away.
  
  What could be improved: Since the apartment didn’t have A/C it was very hot inside, but we could keep the windows open and the fan on. The only negative thing was that we had a problem with the shower, but that should be fixed by now.
