Kalamaja is honestly one of those districts that locals used to keep secret – it’s this wonderfully gritty-meets-hip area just north of Old Town where colorful wooden houses line cobblestone streets, and you’ll find more authentic Estonian life than tourist traps. The apartment itself sits perfectly positioned where you can walk to Telliskivi Creative City (seriously, grab coffee at F-hoone if you go) in about five minutes, or wander down to the Seaplane Harbour museum when you need a culture fix. What I really appreciated was how quiet Kungla tänav actually stays despite being so close to everything – you get these lovely tree-lined views and can sleep with windows open even in summer.

The space itself feels genuinely homey rather than hotel-sterile, which makes sense given it’s an actual apartment setup. I mean, you’ve got a proper kitchenette where you can make morning coffee (crucial when you’re dealing with Estonian early sunsets), and the bathroom actually has decent water pressure – something I’ve learned not to take for granted in older European buildings. The host was incredibly responsive too, which honestly saved me when I couldn’t figure out the building’s entry system on my first night. Parking can be a bit tricky in this neighborhood (it’s mostly street parking), but that’s pretty standard for central Tallinn, and there’s usually something within a block or two if you’re patient. The real charm hits you in those quieter moments – maybe it’s hearing church bells from St. Charles’s Church drifting through the windows, or stepping out your door and immediately smelling that mix of sea air and wood smoke that defines this part of the city. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in Tallinn rather than just visiting it, which is probably why I ended up extending my stay an extra two nights.

  Huoneisto oli pieni, sievä ja hyvin siisti. Sänky oli mukava ja asuinympäristö hyvin rauhallinen, joten sain hyvin nukuttua. Varusteita oli vähän, mutta ne olivat laadukkaita. Sijainti Kalamajan idyllisellä puutaloalueella suuren puiston vieressä noin 2 km päässä satamasta oli minulle täydellinen. Korttelin päästä meni kaksi bussilinjaa, joilla oli helppo liikkua keskustaan, jos ei jaksanut kävellä. Avain oli helposti saatavissa kaupalta noin 1 km päässä majoituksesta.

Huoneiston lukon kanssa jouduin hetken taistelemaan, ennen kuin opin, miten se toimii ja pääsin sisään. Rappukäytävässä on myös todella korkeat porrasaskelmat, joten asunto ei sovi huonojalkaiselle.
