Historic Residence Apartments at Old Town
You know what's funny about staying in Historic Residence Apartments at Old Town?
You know what’s funny about staying in Historic Residence Apartments at Old Town? Everyone talks about Tallinn’s medieval charm, but most hotels stick you in some glass box outside the old walls. This place actually puts you right in the thick of it – I mean, you’re literally on Kinga Street, which is basically a cobblestone’s throw from Town Hall Square. The building itself has that authentic weathered stone look that screams “I’ve seen some history,” and honestly, walking through those heavy wooden doors feels like you’re entering someone’s well-preserved family estate rather than checking into another cookie-cutter hotel.
The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious, which is a relief because let’s be honest – most European “historic” accommodations make you feel like you’re sleeping in a closet. These actually have proper kitchenettes (not just a sad mini-fridge and a hot plate), and the windows are tall enough that you get decent light even with those thick medieval walls. I’ll be straight with you though – the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some rooms, probably because, well, 14th-century architecture wasn’t exactly designed with internet infrastructure in mind. The street noise is pretty minimal considering you’re in the heart of everything, though you might hear the occasional late-night reveler stumbling over cobblestones if you’re a light sleeper.
What really sold me on this place is how it handles that tricky balance between old-world atmosphere and actual comfort. The heating works properly (crucial during those brutal Baltic winters), the bathrooms have been updated without losing character, and the staff actually knows the neighborhood – they’ll tell you which entrance to Raekoja plats is less crowded, or where to grab groceries without paying tourist prices. Plus, you’re walking distance from everything that matters: St. Catherine’s Passage is right around the corner, and you can reach the city walls in about two minutes. Parking can be tricky since the Old Town isn’t exactly car-friendly, but they’ll help you sort out the closest spots. For what you get – that authentic medieval Tallinn experience without sacrificing modern necessities – the 8.1 rating feels about right. It’s not perfect, but it’s genuinely atmospheric in a way that most places just can’t replicate.

Lovely view from the balcony but shame about the apartment Excellent location if you like to be in the thick of things.
Good facilities in kitchen excellent views of the square.
Good instructions to get into building/apartment.
What could be improved: No air conditioning and only one fan between 3 rooms as the apartment gets very hot and unable to open windows due to noise at night, curtains were dropping off and they didn’t even cover the windows.
Beds were poor as they creaked and cracked on any movement in bed. No other furniture in bedroom, so we had to live out of the suitcase on floor.
WiFi - we had none and I don’t feel enough was done to get it sorted. We were there for four nights and we were told an engineer would come out on the Monday and still nothing by when we left on Thursday.
Apartment really tired looking, sofa collapsed, chairs stained, veneer on table peeling, window broken in second bedroom. Really needs some updating and refurbishment.
Nice place for a good price We just wanted to stay the night, so the place was absolutely okay, the view through the window was nice.
What could be improved: The wifi didn't work. We were able to connect to it, but we kept getting messages that there's no internet.
And also we couldn't find pillowcases.
Ideal location - spacious apartment Great central location on Town Hall Square. Location could not be better. Large living room/kitchen. Coffee machine. Historic building. Small lift useful for luggage.
What could be improved: As other reviews have said, there were a few things that could be a bit better. Ours was apartment 3 - had a large living room which was good, but not one of the two apartments with a balcony (as per photos)
The bedroom doors have frosted glass which lets the light in. Could easily be dealt with by small blinds - have suggested this.
Overall however the apartment was good value for money and ideally located.
Spacious apartment in an amazing location Amazing location, spacious and quiet
What could be improved: A few basics missing; nowhere to dry clothes after using the washing machine, no tea towel in the kitchen, no bedside lights
very central and stilish mini studio perfect location and very nice design!
What could be improved: it was a bit odd to have exactly two forks and spoons and not to have such things as salt or oil. too minimalistic, but we managed ok!
Wonderful Apt 2 is a huge, beautifully proportioned apartment overlooking the Square. Everything including local public transport in walking distance. Well equipped kitchen if you want to cook though loads of eateries nearby. Great coffee machine.
Hidden gem in the heart of Tallinn Wonderful location, in the very heart of the city. The apartment was large and beautiful, very clean and well-maintained.
What could be improved: One of the rooms next to us smelled like cigarettes, so the smell was present in the corridor as well.
Great stay. Staff responded fast and no problem throughout the stay. Instructions were clear and I got in easily. enough space, rooms were tidy, good location
What could be improved: no parking
Good value central apartment Location and facilities.
What could be improved: Very clean, comfortable and central. Good value.
Wonderful What could be improved: No light in the bedroom
