Heart of Kalamaja Apartment Overview
You know what really surprised me about Heart of Kalamaja Apartment? It’s tucked right in the middle of what’s become Tallinn’s coolest neighborhood, but somehow it still feels like a genuine local experience rather than some touristy setup. I mean, Kalamaja has this whole hipster thing going on now – think converted warehouses, street art murals, and cafés that take their coffee way too seriously – but this place sits comfortably in the mix without trying too hard.
The apartment itself is honestly what I’d call “effortlessly comfortable.” It’s not going to blow you away with fancy amenities or Instagram-perfect styling, but everything just works. The kitchen actually has proper knives (you’d be amazed how rare that is), the shower has decent water pressure, and the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – Kalamaja can get a bit lively on weekends, especially around Telliskivi Creative City just down the road, but this spot manages to dodge most of the noise. The windows are solid, and honestly, by the time you walk back from exploring the Old Town or grabbing dinner at one of the neighborhood spots, you’ll be ready to sleep anyway.
Here’s the thing though – the location is what makes this place special, even if it doesn’t immediately scream “tourist central.” You’re about a fifteen-minute walk to Tallinn’s medieval Old Town (which sounds far but really isn’t, and the walk takes you through some genuinely interesting streets). But more importantly, you’re right in the thick of where actual Tallinn residents hang out. There’s this fantastic morning market on Saturdays just a few blocks away where you can grab fresh bread and local honey, and I stumbled across at least three vintage shops within walking distance that I never would’ve found from a hotel in the tourist quarter. The Balti Jaam market is practically next door – it’s this renovated train station that’s become this whole food hall situation, perfect for lazy Sunday brunches or picking up ingredients if you want to cook. Actually, that’s another thing – having a proper kitchen means you can hit up Rimi or Selver (the local grocery chains) and save some money instead of eating out every meal. With a 9.0 rating, clearly other people have figured out what I did – sometimes the best travel experiences happen when you’re staying somewhere that feels less like accommodation and more like temporarily living somewhere interesting.

Good location in a nice and safe neighborhood.
Bunk beds were comfy.
There were towels and shampoo in the bathroom.
The appartment was nicely decorated.
The best value for money. You cant have 5* expectations if you pay so cheap so you ignore small details.
What could be improved: We could not heat the place.
Missing stove.
You can hear when the neigbours flush the toilet and follow sonically the way of their s…t.Kalnina from Latvia – 30 October 2023 (9/10)
Great location and appartment design. Good communication with the owner. Good sleep – great matresses and excellent super warm blankets.
Very clean and well designed space for a short stay. Comfortable.
What could be improved: Didn't realize when booking that the appartment is at basement level. Or is it considered semi-basement?
Quite a lot of light is seeping inside through the blinds during the night.
Several appliances – air purifier and de-humidifier are making some background noise, but can be turned off during the night.
All four sleeping places are in the same small bedroom – it's a double bunkbed.Aistė from Lithuania – 14 August 2023 (9/10)
Good location, lovely stay.
Zsolt from Hungary – 12 August 2023 (9/10)
A small apartment with very decorative interieur. Some antique or handmade parts of the furniture. 10 minutes walk to the center of the Old Town. You can park the car in the backyard. Kind host.
What could be improved: Just small things. For example the apartement is on the basement so you have to go downstairs at the entrance and you must keep your head down if you are tall. But you can be used to it easily.Family from Lithuania – 7 August 2023 (9/10)
Very lovely and clean apartment in the charming Kalamaja neighbourhood, near old town. There is everything you might need, maybe except for the stove. But with all the amazing places to eat in Tallinn, there's no really need for it.
As it's a semi-basement apartment, there is no much dailight, but for us it was perfectly ok, we didn't spend time inside during the day, anyway.
Recommended for those who are looking for a non typical place to stay.Yilun from Taiwan – 22 July 2023 (9/10)
