The moment you walk up to 2 Vana-Posti, you realize you’ve hit the location jackpot. I mean, you’re literally steps from Town Hall Square, but here’s the thing – you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear every late-night group of tourists stumbling back from the medieval taverns.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home, not some sterile hotel setup. You know what I noticed right away? The windows are these gorgeous old-style ones that actually open properly (trust me, after a few stuffy hotel rooms, this matters), and you can lean out and basically touch the cobblestones of the Old Town. The kitchen – and this is where three-star places usually disappoint – actually has everything you need. I ended up cooking breakfast there because, honestly, the local markets are so close and the produce is incredible. Plus, there’s something really nice about having your morning coffee while looking out at medieval architecture instead of rushing through some hotel breakfast buffet. The whole place just feels… lived-in, I guess? Like the kind of apartment a local friend might lend you.

What really sold me was how the host seemed to actually know the neighborhood. They left these handwritten notes about which bakery opens earliest (it’s the one on Pikk street, by the way) and warned me that the church bells ring every hour – which, okay, might annoy some people, but I found it pretty charming after the first night. The shower pressure is surprisingly good for an old building, and the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with medieval torture devices. Parking can be tricky in this area, but they actually provided clear instructions about where to find spots without getting a ticket from the overly enthusiastic parking enforcement folks. During summer, this location means you’re in the thick of everything – street performers, outdoor cafes, the works – but come October or November, you get this magical quiet version of the Old Town where you feel like you have the medieval streets mostly to yourself. The only real downside? You might find yourself extending your stay just because leaving feels like giving up the perfect home base for exploring not just Tallinn, but using it as a jumping-off point for day trips to places like Lahemaa National Park.
