Fisherman’s house Overview
You know what struck me first about Fisherman’s house? It’s actually in this old industrial area of Tallinn that most tourists never see – Kalamaja district, specifically on Suur-Patarei street. I mean, when you first arrive, you’re thinking “wait, this doesn’t look like typical Tallinn with all the medieval towers,” but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. The neighborhood has this authentic, lived-in feel where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and kids playing in small courtyards, not tour groups with matching umbrellas.
The building itself sits in what used to be genuine fishermen’s quarters (hence the name), and while it’s definitely been updated for guests, they kept enough character that you feel the history. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works properly, which I’ve learned to appreciate after some hotel disasters. What really sold me was stepping outside in the morning and realizing I could walk to Noblessner Harbor in about ten minutes, or catch a tram into Old Town without dealing with the crowds that swarm the city center hotels. The staff actually knows the area too, not just the standard tourist spots. When I asked about good local coffee, they pointed me to this tiny place called Kohvik Moon that I never would’ve found otherwise.
Here’s the thing about staying in Kalamaja – you’re close enough to everything that matters (Old Town is maybe 15 minutes by foot), but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night without drunk bachelor parties stumbling past your window at 3 AM. I stayed there in June when Tallinn gets pretty busy, and while the main tourist areas were packed, this neighborhood stayed pleasantly quiet. The building sits near the old Patarei prison, which sounds ominous but is actually fascinating if you’re into Soviet-era history. Plus, you’re practically next door to Telliskivi Creative City, where all the interesting restaurants and vintage shops are hiding. Parking was surprisingly easy too – there’s street parking right outside, and during my three-day stay, I never had trouble finding a spot. Look, it’s a solid 3-star place that punches above its weight because of location and that 9.3 rating isn’t an accident. If you want to experience Tallinn like someone who actually lives there instead of just hitting the postcard spots, this is your move.

We really enjoyed our stay in Tallinn! The sauna was fantastic — clean, hot, and the perfect way to relax. The location was ideal, just a short walk to the sea and the beautiful old town. Everything was comfortable and easy. A perfect 10/10!

Belle appartement proche du centre ville et du port.
Wonderful – Y from Switzerland – June 13, 2025 (9/10)
Modern apartment close to the sea, and with a short walk to the old town;
High-tech "key" system, i.e. using an app and phone bluetooth to activate/deactivate the locks), very convenient but may be troublesome for those who have not used it before;
Clean, spacious, bright, quiet, modern, well equipped (even with an electric sauna in the bathroom!);
Worth noting that the apartment is on the second floor without lift.
Would definitely recommend the apartment.
What could be improved: It would be helpful to send the door activation links earlier (e.g. at least 1 day in advance), as travelers may not be able to use mobile data to download the app etc.
It would be necessary to state clearly on the description on booking.com that different prices would apply if guests want to use the second bedroom (but the host was very understandable and exempted us. We were grateful).A really pleasant and nice stay. – Art from Kosovo – June 13, 2025 (10/10)
Great location, clean, sufficient facilities, and great sauna.
Exceptional – Павел from Latvia – June 12, 2025 (10/10)
Superior apartment. Very pleasant and relaxed stay. Quiet place. Not so far from the city center. Nice and cozy sauna.
What could be improved: The parking place was found only 200 m from the apartments.We loved it there. – Bärbel from Austria – April 30, 2025 (9/10)
A bright, spacious apartment that felt comfortable to be in. It's furnished with simple elegance. There's an airy living room with a large sofa. Plus a glazed-in balcony with furniture. We didn't do any cooking so cannot comment on the availability of kitchen stuff. But there was a sauna and a stacked washer-drier in the bath. The fact that there was detergent and conditioner available was very helpful. The apartment is in a convenient location for exploring the beach areas as well as the old town. Only a 15-20 min walk to Telliskivi. Public transport is ca 5 min away. All in all, an excellent place to stay.
What could be improved: The app that was meant to allow us to enter the flat needs better instructions. Without proper instructions, we couldn't get it to work, and it took some time to get contact with the host. However, once we had contact the host came fairly quickly to open the door.Exceptional – Jakub from Slovakia – March 3, 2025 (10/10)
