Bern Boutique by Rikas Hotels Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Bern Boutique by Rikas Hotels on Aia Street, I almost missed it. It’s tucked into this quiet corner of Tallinn’s Old Town where the tourist crowds thin out just enough that you can actually hear your own footsteps on the cobblestones. The entrance has this understated elegance that immediately made me think “okay, someone here actually gets hospitality.” You know what I mean? It’s not trying too hard with flashy signage or marble everything – just clean lines and that particular kind of confidence that comes from knowing you’re good at what you do.
The location is honestly brilliant if you want to be in the thick of things without the chaos. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Town Hall Square, but Aia Street itself feels almost residential. I stayed here during White Nights in June, and while the main squares were absolutely packed with festival-goers until well past midnight, our room stayed surprisingly quiet. The building has these thick walls that seem to swallow sound – probably helps that it’s a smaller property, so there’s not a constant stream of people in the hallways. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that corporate hotel rigmarole where they try to upsell you seventeen different packages.
What really struck me was how the staff seemed to actually know the city. I mean, not just the obvious tourist spots, but real recommendations. The woman at reception told me about this tiny café called Kohvik Moon on Võru Street that serves the best karask (Estonian barley bread) I’ve ever had – definitely not somewhere I would’ve found on my own. The rooms themselves are compact but thoughtfully designed, with these little touches that show someone was paying attention. Good reading lights, actual hangers in the closet instead of those useless security ones, and the shower pressure was surprisingly strong for a historic building. The 8.4 rating makes complete sense to me – it’s not luxury in the “champagne and marble bathroom” sense, but everything works exactly as it should. If you’re the type who appreciates being right in medieval Old Town but wants to sleep peacefully and wake up to genuinely helpful service, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly. Just don’t expect a pool or gym – you’re in one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities, so the entertainment is definitely outside your door.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Tallinn at least two months ahead for major events like music festivals, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near historic attractions.

Right near center, but quiet. Nice room. Great value overall.
Wonderful – Madara from Latvia – August 23, 2025 (9/10)
It was an amazing place to stay location wise, it was quiet and clean. Had all the amenities needed for a short trip. Had enough space and had an okay view from the window. The room was equipped with a kettle and a small refrigerator ideal for keeping food fresh and brewing coffee.
What could be improved: The bed that was deemed to be queen sized was really two single beds together, making it uncomfortable to sleep. Also the window to the room was without the possibility to open so no fresh air. And the AC I'm the room seemed anciat since it made weird noises whilst workingNice location – Vitor from Brazil – August 21, 2025 (8/10)
Nice place with a great location for those who want to explore the old town

What could be improved: Staff could have been friendlierGreat stay ! – Horson from United Kingdom – August 12, 2025 (9/10)
Very enjoyable stay here during my first time in Estonia, located more less by the Old Town in the city centre near enough but very convenient to shops / restaurants / tourist attractions and trams etc……the staff was very helpful with any questions you may have and do their best to help !
What could be improved: Nothing really I disliked, only thing was I almost couldn't find the hotel as it's kind of hidden away where you have to walk into like a drive way / small car park, other than that there's nothing else I dislike !Very Good – Karen from Australia – August 9, 2025 (8/10)
Excellent location, easy to get to from Tallinn bus station and super close to the old town
Perfect location for exploring the Old town, staff very helpful – Helen from United Kingdom – August 8, 2025 (8/10)
Friendly staff, clean room and good facilities in the room. Perfect location in Tallin for access to the old town
What could be improved: Nothing to noteComfortable and accommodating – Rickey from United States – August 7, 2025 (8/10)
Location is great for proximity to old town. The bed is very comfortable and the black out curtains are nice. It was quiet. Had good air conditioning
What could be improved: The street itself is a bit sketchy with a few vagrants drunks and stoners but we didn’t feel threatened The hotel is cheaply done with wood looking contact paper veneer on doors.
